About WRTD WHO ARE WRTD WRTD (Wangaratta Regional Tourism Development Incorporated) was formed in 2000 and consists of a group of local business and community minded people who are working towards raising the profile of Wangaratta as a premium tourist destination. We aim to do this through the promotion of Wangaratta’s key product strengths including; Jazz & Blues, Wine & Food, Heritage and Legends, as well as through enhancement and promotion of existing attractions within our Rural City. WHAT HAS WRTD ACHIEVED Website Project WRTD researched & collated information for a Wangaratta Tourism based website, with initial designs and business plans being completed and handed onto council for implementation. Heritage Walk Project In conjunction with Bill O’Callaghan, a local historian, the Wangaratta Historical Society and the Rural City of Wangaratta, WRTD has developed a Heritage Walk around our central business district to highlight many of Wangaratta’s significant historical buildings and sites. A professional brochure detailing the walk and providing information on the significant sites, along with 20 professionally produced story boards, have been produced and implemented. The first stage of the Heritage Walk was launched by Minister for Tourism, John Pandazopolous. Member Benefits Project To reward our members and visitors to Wangaratta, we introduced our Member Benefits Project. The project aims to increase awareness and exposure of WRTD members through the coupons produced and internal member correspondence, whilst also offering visitors to the region a chance to receive benefits ad bonuses whilst supporting WRTD member businesses. CURRENT & FUTURE WRTD PROJECTS Extended Heritage Walk We plan to expand the Heritage Walk to incorporate more sites both within and outside of the Central Business district. There is also the possibility to expand the Heritage Walk further to incorporate drive/bicycle components. Support of Local Tourist initiatives WRTD aims to support and enhance local tourism initiatives through local council and the visitor information centre, to build, enhance and promote Tourism in our area.
