Heritage Walk

Take the time to pick up a heritage walk brochure and wander around the central business district and discover the many historical buildings and places of interest.
Strategically placed storyboards further explain the significants of sites.

Murray to the Mountains Rail Trail
Cycle or walk along the Murray to the Mountains Rail Trail and experience some of the regions diverse and spectacular scenery. The trail follows historical railway lines through the Ovens Valley from Wangaratta to Bright. It passes through a changing landscape rich in history, with numerous riverside picnic spots and presents ample opportunities to indulge in local produce.

Warby Range State Park
Known locally as “The Warby’s”. The secluded beauty of this State Park extends for 25km’s North of Glenrowan and provides magnificent views of the region. Discover its unique bird and plant life, the seasonal waterfalls and enjoy the numerous walking trails which run throughout the Park. Merriwa Park Ryley Street, Wangaratta. Centrally located on Ryley St and close to the city centre, Merriwa Park is one of the states very few sunken gardens. Resident ducks meander throughout the park. An ideal place to have lunch, surrounded by grasslands and shady gum trees, other features include picnic area with electric BBQ’s, toilets, child’s play area, fernery, pond, and tennis court.

Kaluna Park (within Merriwa Park) This wonderful park is a natural reserve which adjoins Merriwa Park. It contains 3.7 ha of bushland and is the perfect place to take a short walk in a natural environment.

Apex Park Parfitt Road , Wangaratta Situated adjacent to the Ovens River. Features include children’s playground equipment, grassland, picnic tables, BBQ area, toilets, showers and undercover market pavilion.

King George Gardens
Ovens Street, Wangaratta On the corner of Ovens & Rowan Sts opposite the Wangaratta Cinema Centre the King George Gardens features children’s playground equipment, picnic tables, toilets and a bandstand.

Wangaratta Rose Garden
Ryley Street, Wangaratta Situated beside McDonalds on the Corner of Ovens Street. Sit and enjoy the perfume of the roses under the ornate rotunda.

Batchelors Green
Tone Road, Wangaratta Across the road from K Mart Bachelors Green is the home of The Wangaratta Artist’s Society “The Studio”. Features include playground equipment, grassland, picnic tables, BBQ area, and toilets.

Rotary Park Swan Street, Wangaratta Located on the corner of Swan & Edward Streets. Features include toilets, picnic tables and BBQ’s. A rose garden and trees have been planted to commemorate exchange student visits to and from Wangaratta.
